An engine overhaul kit is defined by the engine model, its build level and what the seller chose to put in the box. The three standard components are the cylinder kit — piston, rings, liner or sleeve, pin and clips — the gasket set, full or upper only, and the bearing set with main and rod bearings and thrust washers. What separates one kit from another is everything else: head bolts, valve train parts, oil pump, injectors, turbocharger, coolant and sealant. Identification starts at the engine data plate, where model, serial and build number resolve the kit part number, and it ends at the kit's own breakdown rather than its headline price. Guangzhou Shenyue Machinery Technology Co., Ltd. quotes kits line by line so two offers compare the same list.
What a kit usually holds
| Component | In the kit, and what to verify |
|---|---|
| Pistons, rings, liners, pins and clips | Yes, as the cylinder kit. Verify build number and piston grade against the liner. |
| Gaskets and seals | Full set or upper only. A full set is right for a full overhaul, an upper set for a head job. |
| Main and rod bearings, thrust washers | Usually yes at standard size. Oversize must be specified when the crank is ground. |
| Head bolts and cap bolts | Often not. Torque-to-yield bolts are single use, so confirm they are in the box. |
| Injectors, turbo, oil and water pumps | Rarely. Price them with the kit or they arrive as a second bill. |
How to confirm it
- Read the engine data plate before anything else
Model, serial and build number are on the plate, and the build number is the one most often skipped and most often decisive. Two engines of the same model can take different pistons by build level, and the plate is the only place that says which.
- Get the kit breakdown, not the headline price
Ask how many liners, whether the gasket set is full or upper, whether bearings are standard or oversize, and whether bolts are in the box. A cheaper kit is nearly always a shorter list rather than a better price on the same list.
- Choose between cylinder kit, short block and long block
A cylinder kit rebuilds what is inside the block, a short block replaces the block and its internals, and a long block adds the head. The choice follows the damage found at strip-down, not the budget set before it.
- Confirm oversize and undersize before ordering
If the crank is ground or the bores are bored, bearings and pistons are oversize and the standard kit is wrong. Machining measurements come before the part number, never after it.
- Price the wear items the kit does not include
Injectors, turbocharger, oil pump, water pump and thermostat usually sit outside a kit and are the parts most likely to fail soon after an overhaul. Priced with the kit they are a decision; discovered later they are a second bill.

Parts you may need, by grade
| Part | Grades commonly quoted |
|---|---|
| Cylinder kits | Genuine; OEM-quality matched to the build number. Piston grade and ring type follow the liner, and a mismatched set consumes oil from the first hour. |
| Gasket sets | Genuine or OEM-quality, full set for a full overhaul. A head gasket alone leaves the sump, front cover and injector seals to be bought twice. |
| Bearings and bolts | Genuine or OEM-quality at the correct size. Torque-to-yield bolts are single use, and reusing them loses the clamp the head gasket depends on. |
Need the parts this covers?
Send the machine model, serial number and the part numbers you need. We confirm fitment before payment and state the grade of every line — genuine, OEM-quality or aftermarket.

Why do two overhaul kits for the same engine cost different amounts?
Because they contain different lists. A kit with an upper gasket set, no bolts and standard bearings is not the same product as a full set with bolts, and the price difference usually follows the contents rather than the quality of the parts inside.
Do I need a full gasket set for a top-end overhaul?
An upper set covers the head and what has to come off to reach it; a full set adds the sump, front and rear covers and the seals below. On an engine already seeping from below, the full set pays for itself in the first week.
How do I know whether my engine needs oversize parts?
From machining measurements, not from the model. If the crank journals are ground or the bores are bored, bearings and pistons follow the new size, and ordering a standard kit first is the most common and most expensive mistake in an overhaul.
